Far from taking credit on Manoel Island’s latest developments, thanks to all those concerned for giving us back this precious beach place I had grown up in since childhood.

Since last April, I had started proceedings with the Land Department and the Commissioner of Land for access to the foreshore at Manoel Island and Tignè. Once I met with one of their investigators who even took pictures of the areas and barricades put up.

Later on, when I contacted him, he said: “So many people had got involved in the investigation that presently I can’t give you an answer, except to wait.”  He promised to come back to me and I continually kept in touch to get an answer from their side, something which never materialised.

I therefore decided to go to the Commissioner for the Environment at the Ombudsman’s Office, who acknowledged my request and was just starting to look into the matter when all of this started.

Just for the record, Manoel Island had been used for functions against payment and for one of their directors to walk his dog with his cronies. Once, when I had been given controlled access to the area, I had an argument with this guy after his dog, time and again, kept appearing where I would be fishing.

When I protested about this, he very rudely asked what I was doing there and demanded to know who had given me permission to go there in the first place. I told him I did not see any need for his attitude.

To cut a long story short, limited access turned to no access at all after that.

Again, thanks to all for restoring our rights to access Manoel Island and, hopefully, Tignè Point too.
