Wolves boss Walter Zenga launched a blistering attack on his players after the 4-0 Championship defeat at the hands of Barnsley.

Four goals in the final 17 minutes from skipper Conor Hourihane, former Wolves winger Adam Hammill, Saidy Janko and Tom Bradshaw earned Barnsley an emphatic victory.

Zenga said: “When we conceded the first goal something happened that I never want to see again in my life.

“The players gave up and we conceded another three goals... it is not acceptable.

“I don’t want to see my players give up because they concede one goal and make it a gift like they did in the last 15 minutes.

“It is a shame not only for me but for the fans as well, the club and everybody.”

Sunderland’s Kone signs new deal

Sunderland central defender Lamine Kone has signed a new five-year contract that will keep the Ivory Coast international at the Stadium of Light until 2021.

Kone joined from French side FC Lorient in January and made 18 league appearances to help Sunderland avoid relegation last season.

The 27-year-old, who has featured three times in the league under manager David Moyes this season, had been linked to Everton in the British media.

Giroud blames Verratti for red card

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has blamed PSG midfielder Marco Verratti for tricking the referee after they were both sent off in Tuesday’s 1-1 Champions League draw.

Giroud, who was a second-half substitute, and Verratti were each shown a second yellow card following an off-the-ball incident in stoppage time.

“I’d already been booked so didn’t want to make trouble. I made a small challenge on Verratti but he threw himself on to the ground,” Giroud said.

“I didn’t understand, so I asked him: ‘What are you doing? Then he got up quickly and Marquinhos pushed me from behind. I don’t know how Verratti fell over a second time.”

The France striker will miss Arsenal’s next Group A game at home to FC Basel on Sept. 28.

England vs France

England will play France in a friendly in Paris next June, three days after a World Cup qualifier against Scotland in Glasgow, the Football Association said yesterday.

The June 13 match at the Stade de France will be the first between the two countries since November 2015, when England won 2-0 at Wembley.

England last played at the Stade de France in 2008 when David Beckham made his 100th international appearance.

Ospina to retain CLeague place

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger suggested that David Ospina will retain his place in the team’s next Champions League clash following the goalkeeper’s heroics in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Paris St Germain.

Ospina pulled off a string of fine saves to thwart PSG at the Parc des Princes.

Wenger said the Colombian, who made an error in Arsenal’s Champions League defeat by Olympiakos last season, has silenced his critics.

“He showed his detractors, those who doubted him, that he is a very good goalkeeper. Last year he made a mistake in the Champions League and everyone jumped all over him,” Wenger said.

“On what he delivered, he has the right to stay in the team for the next European game.”

Hughes charged

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has been charged with misconduct by the English FA after being sent off during Saturday’s 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

Hughes was given his marching orders from the technical area in the first half for his vocal protests against the referee’s decision, after Marko Arnautovic was booked for diving.

Hughes has until tomorrow evening to respond to the charge, the FA said.

Grujic says will hit peak form

Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic says he is adjusting to life at Liverpool and believes he will hit peak form in the next season of the Premier League.

Grujic was manager Juergen Klopp’s first signing when he joined the Merseyside club from Red Star in January and the 20-year-old made his first appearance for Liverpool in their 2-0 league defeat by Burnley last month.

“It was hard in pre-season, especially for me because I have come from Serbia and our work here is at a higher level,” Grujic said.

“The running and exercises are harder and I’m still learning, but I’m sure I will adapt. I’m proud that I can work with the staff here and it will be OK. For the first season I just want to learn from these guys.”
