The Nationalist Party has approved seven more candidates to contest the next general election, raising the total so far to 57, excluding current MPs.

The candidates were approved during a meeting of the party executive. Party leader Simon Busuttil said that the forthcoming Independence celebrations would see the PN switch on its election machine and the party was determined to win.

The new candidates are Mary Bezzina (nursing manager from Qormi), Doris Borg (pensioner from Xghajra), Jean Pierre Debono (PN assistant general secretary), Joe Ellis (a lawyer and former candidate from Gozo, now resident in Birkirkara), Paul Mazzola (medical doctor resident in St Paul's Bay with clinics in Zebbug and Zabbar), Ian Vassallo (podiatrist from Rabat) and Stanley Zammit (engineer from Birzebbuga).
