Malta suffered the third largest decrease in industrial production among EU member states in July compared to the same month last year, according to Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office.

Comparing July this year to July 2015 in countries where data was available, Eurostat found that industrial production decreased by 0.5 per cent in the euro area and by 0.1 per cent in the EU28.

The largest decreases were registered in Slovakia (-14.3 per cent), the Czech Republic (-7.6 per cent) and Malta (-3.9 per cent).

The highest increases were registered in Denmark and Slovenia (both +7.4 per cent), Finland (+6.8 per cent) and Ireland (+five per cent).

Seasonally-adjusted industrial production in July compared to the previous month fell by 1.1 per cent in the euro area, and by one per cent in the EU28.

Among member states for which data is available, the largest decreases were registered in Slovakia (-15.9 per cent), the Czech Republic (-9.7 per cent) and the Netherlands (-5.8 per cent), and the highest increases were Estonia (+4.5 per cent), Ireland (+3.7 per cent) and Denmark (+2.3 per cent).

In June, industrial production rose by 0.8 per cent in the euro area and by 0.7 per cent in the EU28.
