The NGO Front Favur Il-Mina said today that the suggestion made by Opposition leader Simon Busuttil yesterday for an underground metro system which would link Malta to Gozo and extend to several points on both islands was a plausible solution for Malta's transport problems.

In this way, the group said, a tunnel connecting Malta and Gozo, which in itself should already be considered as a national project, may possibly be the start of a series of developments leading to a national underground system.

The front said it was open to any proposals which could improve the transport system.
