Crystal Palace defender Pape Souare is expected to make a full recovery after he was seriously injured in a car accident on Sunday, according to the club’s chairman Steve Parish.

Parish announced the good news on Tuesday afternoon in a statement that also revealed Souare has undergone surgery on his jaw and thigh, and should be discharged from hospital on Friday.

The Senegal full-back was airlifted to hospital on Sunday after suffering thigh and jaw injuries in an accident on the M4 motorway.

Parish’s statement on the club’s official website read: “Pape Souare has this morning undergone surgery on both his jaw and thigh.

“Thanks to the fantastic response of the emergency services, the amazing surgeons, doctors and staff at the Royal London Hospital he is expected to make a full recovery and should be discharged on Friday.”
