A Trigana Air Boeing 737 cargo plane carrying over 14 tonnes of fuel skidded to a halt on the runway of Wamena airport in West Papua when its landing gear failed.

A Papuan police spokesman said there were no reports of casualties.

The plane left Sentani Airport and landed in Wamena at 07.30 local time.

White smoke could be seen billowing as the plane scraped along the runway.

Authorities temporarily closed the airport to remove the plane fuselage and repair damage done on the tarmac.
