One crew member died and four were injured, two seriously, in a lifeboat accident on the Harmony of the Seas cruise ship in Marseille.

The crew were taking part in a safety exercise when the lifeboat became detached from the fifth deck.

A number of Maltese were on the ship but they were not involved.

According to reports five members of the ship's navigation crew were on board the life boat when it fell 10 metres into the sea.

Harmony of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean, is the world's largest cruise ship and can carry more than 8,000 passengers and crew.

It entered service in May this year.
