Nicholas Attard Montalto, the  2016 national junior road race champion, will race at the European Championships in Brittany, France, this week.

A total of 848 riders (men and women) will be vying for the continental titles in the various road and time-trial categories in Plumelec.

Attard Montalto will compete in the 25km time trial tomorrow as well as the 125km road race on Friday in the select circuit that includes the famous Côte du Cadoudal, where races conclude at the spectacular summit.

“I trained very hard this year, dedicating all my summer holidays for preparations and to peak for these races with the help of coach Rachel Darmanin,” Attard Montalto said.

“I’m now eager to give my very best in the championships.”

Attard Montalto is assisted by the Malta Cycling Federation (MCF), the Maltese Olympic Committee and SportMalta.

Joe Bajada, general secretary of the local cycling body, is also travelling to France this week to attend the European Cycling Union Extraordinary General Assembly, the MCF said in a statement.

Bajada will also have talks with officials from the international federation in view of the first cycling championship for the small countries of Europe, to be held in Malta in 2018.
