Flashing amber lights are often used to ease traffic flow, but their introduction in a number of Malta's streets are leaving many drivers and pedestrians feeling like a deer in headlights.

A number of traffic lights, especially close to the Kappara roundabout, have been programmed to constantly blink on amber (yellow), meaning that both drivers and pedestrians are to proceed with caution.

But their introduction has served to cause confusion among many, even leading to reports that the traffic lights were out of order.

Times of Malta has witnessed potential accidents on The Strand in Sliema as both drivers and pedestrians try to figure out who has the right of way. In reality, drivers are meant to slow down on approach and stop whenever pedestrians are seen wanting to cross the road.
