Former England captain Alan Shearer said he was very proud and honoured to unveil a bronze statue of himself in his home city of Newcastle. The 46-year-old, who is still the Premier League’s record goal scorer, was speaking next to the 16 foot high statue that now stands outside St James’ Park. Funded by former Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd, the installation shows Shearer with his famous one hand in the air goal celebration.
