1551 in Concert, a musical event marking one of the darkest pages in Gozo’s history, when almost the island’s entire population of 5,000 was dragged away into slavery by Turkish forces 465 years ago, was performed at the Citadel. The performance featured a live orchestra, choirs, top solo singers and dancers. Mro Antoine Mercieca composed the music and directed the orchestra, George Mizzi was artistic director, and Joseph Psaila wrote the script for the nine historical scenes. The Gozo Creative Theatre Club and the Fondazjoni Santa Cecilja collaborated with the event. Photo shows President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca addressing the audience.
