More than 50 volunteers took part in a cleanup of Buġibba and Qawra today, St Paul's Bay mayor Graziella Galea said.

Volunteers collected some 50 bags of rubbish as they worked to clear the area beneath Buġibba's main square as well as the area around Triq il-Port Ruman, Qawra.

The cleanup was jointly organised by the St Paul's Bay local council, Cleansing Directorate and private firm Gold Lion Holding.

"The council spends around €1,400 every day to keep towns clean," mayor Galea said, "but unfortunately some people choose to do their utmost to litter."

She thanked volunteers for lending a hand and urged residents to play their part in keeping their neighbourhoods clean.
