The church of Our Lady of Victories in Valletta is open today between 9am and 1pm. Visitors can admire the newly-restored 1735 altar and carved niche dedicated to St John the Evangelist.

The original 18th-century colours, gilding and exquisite decorative scheme have been revealed after months of painstaking treatment by a conservation team from Giuseppe Mantella Restauri, made possible through the support of the Alfred Mizzi Foundation. Din l-Art Ħelwa manages the church and opens it up for this annual celebration.

This is the fourth altar to be restored at Victory church since the organisation was awarded guardianship five years ago today. Completion of the fifth and last altar dedicated to St Liborius is scheduled for later this year.
