Archbishop Charles Scicluna deemed it fit to advise internet users to be careful how to use blogs, to stay away from insults, to avoid making the internet a tool to induce hatred or hate others whether for political or religious reasons. This causes discontent at the receiving end and could have undesired repercussions.

Newspaper articles show we have become a divided nation. Harsh language is used against those we consider opponents and, often, dishonest authors hide behind a false name or a nom-de-plume. It is amazing how these individuals believe that they may have a God-given right to hurt others.

Offending others is wrong because everyone has his/her own opinion. No one should offend, throw filth or blackmail others.

During Mass to mark the feast of St Julian’s (August 28), the Archbishop also referred to the environment. There has never been a time when this subject has been referred to so often. Probably it’s because the environment is not being respected as it should and, thanks to corrupt individuals, perhaps paid by taxpayers’ money and whose main aim is solely to become rich overnight to the detriment of us mortals, the environment is suffering.

As the Archbishop warned, there will come a time for us all to settle our dues with the Creator. No amount of money – legal or illegal – will make up for our wrongdoing.

Let’s reflect about this and act accordingly before it is too late.
