I read with interest the interview with Andrew Ganado on the Townsquare project (The Sunday Times of Malta, August 28).

In my opinion this was all very sweet talk about how everything was done according to rules and regulations.

Mr Ganado spoke about public misconceptions of the whole project, the need to move up not across, the creation of new space, future good traffic flow and other nice-sounding prospects. Everything will work out perfectly, he suggested.

If everything is going to be so perfect, however, why go through all the trouble of making sure that the meeting to decide on the Sliema and Mrieħel towers was stage-managed to go in the developers’ favour?

There was staunch government backing for the projects, and of course, an absent, toothless Environment and Resources Authority. Should such a meeting be even validated?

What I know is this: we have a drab Paceville, which is nothing but a mess, complete with its out-of-proportion tower; Tigné is a nondescript concrete jungle, which hits you like a punch in the face when you approach Malta from the sea; and Sliema, a long-lost, once elegant town, which is a maze of hideous apartments and shadows. Stop choking it to death, another monster in the midst is all it needs! Poor residents.

Mrieħel, too, does not need a high-rise to spoil the Maltese general landscape forever. This madness has to be stopped.

I’m sorry Mr Ganado, but the only name of the game is money, nothing else.
