Projects that have embellished Victory Square and September 8 Avenue, Xagħra, and restored the parvis of the village’s Nativity of Our Lady parish church, were inaugurated last Tuesday.

The projects were part-funded by the EU Leader programme. The Gozo Ministry financed the materials and supplies required for the parish church project, which amounted to around €106,000.

The church parvis was revamped by means of the installation of new hard stone balustrates and paving, a new lighting system and the restoration of the old carved stone statues on the parvis. The restoration of the statues, which are attributed to Giovanni Farrugia, son of renowned sculptor Alessandro Farrugia of Żejtun, was entrusted to Frank Cassar of Victoria.

The projects were inaugurated by Gozo Minister Anton Refalo and blessed by Archpriest Carmelo Refalo in the presence of Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana, Mayor Joe Cordina and Xagħra councilors.
