Alternattiva Demokratika has called for a cover over Triq Regjonali in Santa Venera amid residents' concerns over the noise and pollution levels.

"There are a number of residents who live right above this road. Every day and night these residents are exposed to exhaust fumes and noise coming from vehicles. Covering the entire road, from the Santa Venera tunnel till the roundabout would block noise and pollution from reaching the residents, "AD Żgħażagħ spokesperson and Santa Venera resident Marc' Andrea Cassar.

The appeal was ignored but the time had come to put this issue back on the local agenda, he told a news conference.

Pascal Aloisio from ADŻ said that covering the road would also provide a huge public open space in a highly urbanised area.

"It is high time that something is given back to Santa Venera residents, who have had to bear the brunt of a major road cutting through the community for years. Our doable proposal will go a long way in tackling or at least mitigating some of the problems caused by heavy traffic."
