I am hugely disappointed by those living on our beautiful island, primarily due to the lack of respect for the environment and the tragic way in which we treat the sea.

I have been to many beautiful beaches over the past weeks and was extremely saddened to see the amount of trash dumped at sea and the floating patches of petrol. Ġnejna Bay is by far the worst I have seen with so many boats spewing fuel all over.

The same is happening in Gozo: litter drifting and Wied l-Għasri (above), one of our stunning natural treasures, is invaded by pleasure boats  destroying the habitat with the fuel and refuse ending up in the water.

How irresponsible and careless can we be?

Why, oh, why must this be happening to our jewel, the Mediterranean Sea?

I beg my fellow Maltese residents to start taking more interest in the preservation of our sea so that we can enjoy it for many more centuries.
