A best man speech can be a daunting thing to write at the best of times.

Play it too safe and the audience will start humming for cake; talk too much about that holiday in Prague and the more conservative guests - and perhaps the groom himself - will turn a shade of purple.

But what if you could outsource the job to the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader and Eileen Montesin?

When Thomas Camilleri was asked to be the best man at the wedding of his friends Robert and Charlotte, he thought he would ask some famous local faces to give him a hand.

Armed with an iPhone and a creative streak, he set about persuading politicians, actors, TV presenters and a radio DJ to wish the couple the best of luck in their married life.

In the finished video, actor Marica Mizzi mock-scolds the groom for choosing to marry a British woman, asking him "weren't Maltese women enough for you?"

Eileen Montesin, described as 'TV Royalty' in the video,  tells viewers that everybody is still wondering how Robert the groom "pulled an English girl" as beautiful as Charlotte.

Self-described "well-known presenter" Emmy Bezzina warns Charlotte that the man she is about to marry "enjoys wearing Abanderado underwear," and the warning is repeated, with some added colour, by TV presenter Peppi Azzopardi.

There are cameos for Prime Minister Joseph Muscat - who squeezes in a Brexit joke - Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil and Archbishop Charles Scicluna, as well as for potato farmer Michael Caruana (whose 2013 video had gone viral on YouTube) and DJ Banana.

It was the groom's love of DJ Banana that first gave Mr Camilleri the idea of making the video, he told Ourwedding.com.mt

The groom had remained Maltese through-and-through despite having lived in London for a decade, and his best man wanted to play on that fact.

"So one day I thought, wouldn't it be amazing if I could get a message from DJ Banana? And it kind of spiralled out of control from there."

Everyone he approached was extremely enthusiastic to be a part of the video, he said.

"I think...they loved that this was just something fun," he said.

Robert Zammit and Charlotte Munt were married on August 27.
