Michael Bonnici writes:

Thinking with a human mind, I consider that, when the soul of my friend John Cutajar expired last on August 27 and reached the throne of God, he obtained an exceptional distinctive grade from the Lord’s judgement within the framework of the eight Beatitudes. He was welcomed in the arms of his Creator with the heavenly words: “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad for great is your reward in heaven” (Matthew 5:12).

Incidentally, his passing away was timed by the Gospel theme of the 22nd Sunday of the Catholic Church calendar on the subject of ‘humbleness’, which was part of his character and considered a special virtue within his Christian belief.

At an early stage of his life he joined the civil service as a working life-time career with an exceptional fidelity service, loyalty, rectitude, punctuality, honesty, exemplary and meticulous attention throughout his various duties of a long public service commitment.

Immediately after his retirement, he devoted much of his time within the Żebbuġ parish and the various civil societies, putting his vast experience within the civil service while enjoying the blind trust of his fellow parishioners.

For a very long time he gave with his soft and convincing voice an exceptional social and educational service to the elderly of Żebbuġ – praised by one and all for his righteousness, correct behaviour and always giving his best with a genuine advice.

On his own and sometimes lonely after his daily Mass in the parish church, he would be deep in meditation and prayer, surely not for himself but for his close family members, friends and foes and for all those requiring the Lord’s help.

John was appointed to serve the Holy Eucharist not only as a service in church but also in particular to several homes sanctifying the sick with the Holy Bread of life.

For all this work, his family was gifted from heaven with his son being ordained to the priesthood in one of the religious orders.

May the Almighty God give all the necessary strength required in such a difficult time to his beloved wife Alice and sons finding comfort with the words:  “Yours and of men like you is the Kingdom of Heaven.”

To those reading my simple and humble words, please join me to this prayer: Praise be to God for all the gifts he favoured to John Cutajar – an exemplary Christian person.
