My wallet and I very recently parted company with one another while travelling in the afternoon on a Malta Public Transport bus between Valletta and Buġibba. It’s a mystery as to how it happened. All I know when I left the bus was that my wallet was missing from my shorts pocket.

As soon as I discovered the loss I immediately reported it to the Qawra police station. The officer was very helpful and gave me a Malta Public Transport telephone number advising me to call them to see if my wallet had been found. After numerous attempts, the next morning I finally got an answer from a person who said they were unable to help and told me I should enquire at the police station in Valletta. This I did, only to be told that they were unable to help and that I should enquire at the Valletta bus terminus information kiosk. I did so, only to be told with a friendly shrug of the shoulders that I should go to the Valletta police station. So much for interdepartmental progress.

Being a regular visitor to these islands and a regular user of the public bus service, I’m well aware of what it was like in the days of Arriva.

With the new Spanish owners, it was assumed that all that was in the past.

What’s changed please?
