Some weeks ago I read a short news item in the Floriana community paper, Il-Furjana, about a book which narrates the history of St Publius church and its art treasures.

This item reported what Judge Emeritus Giovanni Bonello wrote to the editors of this book, Il-Knisja ta’ San Publju fil-Furjana, Arti u Storja (St Publius Church in Floriana, Art and History).

Dr Bonello said that after a close look at this publication his judgement was extremely positive. It was a superior concept, he said, which was accomplished with passion and competence. His most significant comment was that he is quite certain that this was the best publication ever about a Maltese parish church for which he heartily congratulated all those who worked on the project.

After reading such a qualified opinion it was only logical that I myself had to acquire a copy of the book from the Floriana church. I confirm that it was a wonderful experience to go through this voluminous publication which encapsulates all that this outstanding temple possesses.

I recommend it heartily to the people of Floriana, particularly those who do not live there anymore, like myself, but also to those who appreciate these enormous patrimonial values of our Maltese churches.
