Aurelio De Laurentiis believes Napoli have further “enriched” their midfield by signing Croatia international Marko Rog from Dinamo Zagreb.

The 21-year-old has joined the Serie A club on undisclosed terms, following Arkadiusz Milik, Amadou Diawara and Piotr Zielinski to the San Paolo after striker Gonzalo Higuain was sold to Juventus.

Yesterday, Azzurri president De Laurentiis tweeted: “After he passed a medical we can finally announce the signing of another great player for Napoli.

“It is a purchase that enriches a midfield which is now almost as complete as you can get, giving the skilful hand of (head coach Maurizio) Sarri the ability to use multiple formations.”

Rog, who has four Croatia caps, featuring against Spain at Euro 2016, scored five goals across his 40 league appearances for Dinamo. He notched 17 in one season for another former club, Varazdin.

De Laurentiis also said that Napoli do not need Paris St Germain striker Edinson Cavani to return to the club as it would be difficult to bring him back into the team.

The Serie A side were linked with the 29-year-old after Higuain left in July.

“It is difficult to bring back a footballer used in the past... because Napoli evolves from championship to championship, taking up diverse and different strategies,” he said.

“That’s why I always repeat that we need young players and the new ones who have joined Napoli this year will make their contribution to our success.”

Napoli signed Poland striker Milik, 22, from Dutch club Ajax for €35 million this month to replace Higuain.

“If we want to speak of strikers as Milik and Gabbiadini, we have many chances to improve their careers and the growth of Napoli,” De Laurentiis added.
