Paralympics: Russia will appeal in the Swiss Federal Court tomorrow against the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision to uphold a blanket ban on their athletes from competing in next month’s Rio Paralympics. Last week the Lausanne-based CAS, sport’s highest tribunal, rejected a Russian appeal against the suspension that was handed out by the International Paralympic Committee because of a state-sponsored sports doping programme.

Ticketing scam: A Brazilian court has authorised the release of Ireland’s Kevin James Mallon, a director of sports hospitality company THG who was arrested on August 5 for the alleged illegal scalping of Olympic tickets. Mallon was being held along with the former head of the Olympic Council of Ireland Patrick Hickey, who is still detained in a Rio prison. Brazilian police said earlier in August they uncovered emails between Hickey and THG executives discussing tickets they planned to sell at inflated prices, which would earn them as much as $3m in profit.

Tennis: Roberto Bautista Agut will meet fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in Winston-Salem Open final after he outplayed Serbian Viktor Troicki 7-5 6-7 6-2 in a dramatic semi-final that lasted more than two hours in steamy heat. A short break seemed to help Bautista Agut, who steadied the ship and served strongly in the final set to move within sight of his fourth title of the year. In the other semi-final, Carreno Busta took down John Millman 6-4 7-6. The 49th ranked player in the world, Carreno Busta has yet to lose a set in this tournament.

Snooker: China’s Xu Si is the 2016 IBSF world Under-21 champion after a comeback victory in the final over Alexander Ursenbacher, in Belgium. The 18-year-old Si was bidding to become the sixth consecutive player from Asia take the crown, while Ursenbacher sought to become the first winner from Switzerland. Ursenbacher looked set for victory at 5-3 up. However, Si produced nerveless snooker with contributions of 41, 59 and 69 to snatch a 6-5 victory.
