It was not one of Ronaldo's volleys, and neither was it one of Messi's mind-boggling manoeuvres, but an American high school student may well have scored one of the most spectacular goals ever seen.

The unbelievable goal was captured on camera as ThunderRidge took on Columbine yesterday.

The long pass from the back caught the ThunderRidge back four on the back foot, and Columbine striker Dylan Prichett-Ettner ran clean through on goal.

The goalkeeper came roaring out of his box, connected with the striker, but – like something out the films – the striker executed a perfect somersault over the keeper. After landing on both feet, Prichett-Ettner stuck the ball in the net.

But after believing that he scored a once-in-a-lifetime goal, the linesman became one of the most unpopular figures on the field when he cruelly raised his flag for offside and the strike was disallowed.
