How odd, the Prime Minister earns €58,511 per annum, a minister earns €45,329, a parliamentary secretary earns €43,269 and an MP earns €20,604. However, one particular Labour MP earns €65,285, which is a lot more than the Prime Minister earns.

This particular MP earns an additional €44,681 because he chairs a committee and is a ministerial consultant. Other Labour MPs double their parliamentary earnings by chairing committees or providing consultancy services to a minister or ministry, thereby earning almost as much as a minister and in most cases more than a parliamentary secretary.

With all due respect, this does not make any sense. The Prime Minister, ministers and parliamentary secretaries attend to the business of governing the country. They take all the decisions, right or wrong, and the buck stops with them. MPs attend parliamentary sittings and take part in debates, period. Their extra-curricular income is just icing on the cake – money for nothing.

Politicians are human and they have over-inflated egos. They actually talk themselves into believing that they are in politics to serve. They connive and they are envious of other humans who earn more money than they do for doing less. So how come this lot are not envious of their colleagues who are making as much, if not more money than they do, without the responsibilities, the effort and the hard work? How odd.
