Submissions to the first Malta Architect Awards 2016 are being accepted at The Fortress Builders, St Mark Street, Valletta, until September 2 between 9.30am and 1pm.

“Since this is the first time formal recognition is being given to local projects, there is much anticipation for them,” said Jason Attard, managing director of iMNG Ltd, the company that launched these awards through its Executive Events brand. The awards are being supported by the Planning Authority as the primary sponsor together with Jaguar.

Mr Attard said the feedback received so far was extremely positive and interest had been high. “The level of response from participants is strong and that satisfies us,” he added, also noting that projects eligible for submission are required to have been approved by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority after January 1, 2011, or subsequently by the Planning Authority, and built, completed and commissioned by the end of this month.

All projects entered must have been designed by an individual architect or group of architects (a partnership of warrant holders) except for the Interior Design and Infrastructure and Engineering Awards, , which are obviously also open to interior designers and civil engineers.

The same project may be entered in as many categories as the applicant wishes, as long as it is in line with the specific guidelines for each particular category. Projects built outside of the Maltese Islands are also eligible for submission.

The Malta Architect Awards will take place during at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on September 24.
