In an article in The Daily Telegraph (August 16), the respected former defence secretary and recently retired chairman of the House of Commons’ Intelligence and Security Committee, Malcolm Rifkind, commented on concerns expressed over involvement of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei in sensitive national infrastructure projects.
He referred to the “links between Huawei and the Chinese military” and expressedconcern that there could be a possibility of introducing potential spying software into telecommunications equipment that is used by national governments’ most sensitive departments.
Given Huawei’s recent collaboration with the Maltese government on a number of important projects, should any similar concerns be raised locally?
