Jorginho came off the bench to score a second-half equaliser to earn Ħamrun Spartans a 1-1 draw against Gżira United at the Hibs Stadium.

It was Gżira who dominated much of the proceedings in the first half.

In fact after 11 minutes Rafael Ledesma moved past Luke Grech and hit a firm drive that was pushed away by David Cassar with the aid of the cross bar.

Gżira finally broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when from a Ledesma corner-kick Tony was on hand to bundle the ball home.

Ħamrun were forced to make their first change on 41 minutes when Teixeira limped out injured and was replaced by Jorginho.

Leandro Motta replaced Ryan Spiteri at the start of the second half and the Brazilian soon left his mark.

On 66 minutes, the Brazilian sent dipping cross towards Jorginho who headed past Gżira goalkeeper Borg.

Motta almost won it for the Spartans in stoppage time when Motta moved past two defenders but was denied by the alert Borg.
