Rugby Union: Australia fly-half Quade Cooper has been recalled to the starting line-up for tomorrow’s Rugby Championship clash against New Zealand after a raft of injuries to the inside-backs forced coach Michael Cheika to shake up his backline. Bernard Foley has been shunted to inside-centre to accommodate Cooper after Matt Giteau (broken leg), Rob Horne (shoulder) and Matt Toomua (concussion) were all injured in the first game last week.

Tennis: Laura Robson’s hopes of playing in next week’s US Open are still intact after she made it through the first round of qualifying. The 22-year-old, who was handed a wild card into the qualifying draw, is languishing at 247 in the world as she has struggled on her comeback from two rounds of wrist surgery, but progressed past Su Jeong Jang 6-3 6-2. There was more British success as Tara Moore also made it through to the next round. The 24-year-old is hoping to make her maiden appearance at the US Open and is one step nearer after a 6-4 6-3 success over Tereza Mrdeza.

Olympics: Kuwait yesterday dissolved the country’s Olympic committee and football association, citing financial irregularities. Hamoud Fulaiteh, deputy director general of the Kuwaiti Public Authority for Youth and Sport, said the decision was made in a meeting yesterday and two interim administrations had been appointed.
