German movements’ teacher Maja Moser, assisted by pianist Szilard Toth, will be leading a weekend workshop to introduce influential Russian thinker George Ivanovich Gurdjieff’s self-development method by working on a set of movements from the hundreds he developed.

Gurdjieff’s framework for self-development is aimed to help the individual attain his or her full potential.

While travelling the world, Gurdjieff came to understand that there was a link between body, mind and soul. He also observed holy men assuming postures that they would then hold for hours while in contemplation. He set about devising a method that unites those of the fakir, monk and yogi. Referred to as the Fourth Way, Gurdjieff then opened schools to teach both the theoretical and practical aspects of his method.

Part of the practice are the movements which he devised from the knowledge he gathered from his travels, accompanied by music he wrote with the help of composer Thomas de Hartmann.

During the workshop, Moser will guide participants to a realisation that new postures have the potential to trigger new thoughts and feelings. The postures are not random but were carefully selected by Gurdjieff for the potential inner state that one can experience and for the knowledge each posture carried through the centuries.

The seminar is open to adults and is taking place between Friday, September 2 and Sunday, September 4. The Movements Workshop will be held at Numero Dos Tango Hall in Mosta while the optional residential retreat is taking place at Mount St Joseph, Jesuit Retreat Centre, also in Mosta. The programme kicks off on Friday at 6pm and comes to an end on Sunday at 7pm.
