In the run-up to the parish feast of The Nativity of Our Lady celebrated on September 8, Banda Vittorja will be performing in Akkademja Mużikali tonight.

A 60-element strong band will be under the baton of Mro Roderick Bugeja, the musical director of the band club. Almost half its members are home-grown musicians who started their music studies within the society’s music school.

Music by Haydn, Fenech, de Haan, Sciberras, Bugeja and Rozsa will feature throughout the evening. Soprano Claire Caruana will be singing the premier of Roderick Bugeja’s Ave Maria, while tenor Charles Vincenti and baritone Ivan Vella will perform in an arrangement of Fenech’s Antiphon. Well-known narrator and presenter George Peresso will add his talents to the final movement of Ray Sciberras’s cantata Bi Twelidek Rebaħħtna. The audience will also be able to revel in Haydn’s beloved Trumpet Concerto featuring soloist Daniel Vella.

A 30-strong Coro Bel Canto under the direction of Mro Hermann Farrugia Frantz will be the resident choir, showing their full strength in the rendition of Jacob de Haan’s mass for wind, band and choir. The concert will close with local resident and musical director of the parish Chris Muscat’s Popular Hymn dedicated to the Naxxar celebration.

The musical performance will take place in the town’s parish church and starts at 7.30pm. Entrance is free of charge.
