Millions of euros have been made through corrupt schemes related to medical visas which Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and his collaborators knew all about, Alleanza Bidla claimed today.

Police have said they see no reason to press charges against Neville Gafa'.Police have said they see no reason to press charges against Neville Gafa'.

Addressing a press conference, the party's Ivan Grech Mintoff appealed to “genuine labourites” to clean their party before it is too late. He also accused the Nationalist Party of using the scandal for political mileage.

“Both parties have been given information by top Libyan officials on what is going on. However, now it is the time to act,” he said.

A Libyan whistleblower has alleged that a health ministry official ran a racket charging Libyans thousands in kickbacks in exchange for issuing them a medical visa.

Police have since said that they have found no evidence of wrongdoing, and are instead considering pressing charges against the whistleblower.

Describing the police commissioner as “a puppet on a string”, Mr Grech Mintoff warned that if the Labour Party does not “clean its mess”, new evidence including recordings, will be made public as from next week which will make “government officials blush”.

He said that evidence, particularly mobile messages, have already been published by The Malta Independent, with more in the pipeline.

He said that both parties should approach Alleanza Bidla to discuss the way forward before more “damage will be made to Malta’s reputation”.

Mr Grech Mintoff claimed that Neville Gafa' – the OPM official named in this scandal – was not acting alone and other people close to the government were directly involved.

“If the Prime Minister is to be taken seriously, he should at least immediately suspend Mr Gafa and not keep him working directly with Libyans and those needing a medical visa.”

Mr Grech Mintoff claimed that the medical visas scandal is only the tip of the iceberg as “the racket is much wider.”
