I write with reference to the article ‘Using different yardsticks’ by Denis Tanti (August 18).

The Ministry for the Family and Social Solidarity would like to clarify that in this article he is repeating what he already asserted in a press conference a few days earlier, which assertions were immediately and very strongly denied by this ministry, by the permanent secretary and by the CEO of St Vincent de Paul Residence.

It is absolutely not true that the permanent secretary remained passive, as Tanti asserted. Whenever Tanti raised issues, the permanent secretary took all the necessary steps, legally and administratively.

The ministry refrains to comment further in view of the investigations being carried out by the Ombudsman after a report was lodged by Tanti himself.

The permanent secretary and the CEO of St Vincent de Paul Residence have already submitted all the facts and all the explanations that were requested by the Ombudsman. These facts and explanations come nowhere near the assertions that are being made by Tanti, including his assertions in relation to the salary package of the CEO, as opposed to her would-be salary package as Principal GP (which is her substantive grade) in the Health Department and her right to do private practice.

However, until such time that the Ombudsman comes to his conclusions on the matter, this ministry will not make any further comments, other than, once again, strongly deny Tanti’s assertions.
