A TNT cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Malta International Airport this morning, airport officials confirmed.

The Boeing 737 was forced into the emergency manoeuvre due to nose gear problems.

"At 10.25am, a freighter aircraft with registration 3V857, travelling from Tunis to Malta declared a full emergency," an MIA spokeswoman told Times of Malta.

"Malta International Airport’s Fire and Rescue team were dispatched immediately and the aircraft, with 2 crew on board, landed safely at 10.44am."

TNT is one of the world's largest delivery companies, with its headquarters in the Netherlands. It was bought out by rival FedEx in May of this year.
