As part of the celebrations of the feast of St Dominic in Vittoriosa, the Prince of Wales Own Band Club is presenting a concert of Eurovision hits at St John Tower on Saturday at 9.30pm

Under the direction of Mro Emmanuel Spagnol, the repertoire will feature such winning entries as Diva performed by Dana International (1998); Alexander Rybak’s Fairytale (2009); Puppet on a String presented by Sandie Shaw in 1967; My Number One sung by Elena Paparizou in 2005; and Loreen’s Euphoria (2012), among others. Popular local singers Georgina Abela, Neville Refalo, Ina Robinich and Dominic Cini will take part.

The Dominicans settled in Vittoriosa in 1528, after they were given a chapel dedicated to the Annunciation which belonged to some lay members. Two years later, the Knights of the Order of St John arrived in Malta and declared Vittoriosa as the capital city. They took over the parish church and in the middle of the following century, the Dominican church dedicated to the Annunciation served as the city’s parish church. In 1941, during World War II, enemy bombs destroyed both the church of the Annunciation and the priory.  These were rebuilt 20 years later.

Entrance is free with the show starting at 9.30pm. A fireworks display will follow.
