National heritage, a splendid sunset, mellow music and delicious food will all come together during this year’s Torre della Musica.

Organised by TDM 2000 Malta, the third edition of this evening soirée will take place at St Agatha’s Tower in Mellieħa next Saturday.

Situated on the crest of Marfa Ridge, the tower was built in 1649 during the rule of Grand Master Jean Paul Lascaris Castellar. A shallow alcove within housed a chapel dedicated to St Agatha.

It was manned during both World Wars and, in recent times, it was equipped as a radar station by the Armed Forces of Malta. Nowadays it is manned by Malta’s National Trust Din l-Art Ħelwa.

The tower is also commonly referred to as the Red Tower or it-Torri l-Aħmar, due to its exterior colour which was retained on restoration. It provides excellent all-round views of Gozo, Comino, the Malta-Gozo channel, Mellieħa Bay and the Għadira Nature Reserve that attendees to Torre della Musica can also take in while joining a tour of the tower.

This will be followed by a barbecue in the area surrounding the tower with live band Floor Zero, featuring local musicians Ben Darmanin and Rachel Tedesco Triccas, providing entertainment for the evening. Rugs, carpets and bean bags will complement the atmosphere created by the scenic surrounding.

Torre della Musica aims to create awareness on the work done by SOS K9 Urban Search and Rescue Malta, an international organisation set up to assist countries, including Malta, that are hit by disaster.
