Two men found carrying multiple sachets of cocaine and cannabis in Paceville over the weekend were remanded in custody today after they pleaded not guilty to aggravated drug possession.

Prosecuting, Superintendent Dennis Theuma told the court how Somalian Abdirashid Ahmed Sirad, 20, had been followed by officers to St George’s Bay after he was reported for suspicious behaviour.

Mr Sirad was seen throwing several sachets suspected to contain cannabis grass, resin and cocaine into the sea after he spotted the officers.

Supt Theuma told the court officers had tried to search Mr Sirad's residence, but Mr Sirad "took  officers for a ride”, letting them drive around in a police vehicle for a long time without showing them where he lived.

Meanwhile, Husayn Mustafa Omar, 29, who lives at the Hal Far Open Centre, was arrested by officers from the Drugs Squad after he was found in possession of sachets of cocaine and cannabis.

During police questioning, he admitted that the drugs were not for his personal use and that he was a trafficker.

The prosecution objected to the bail requests in both cases.

The court, presided by Magistrate Neville Camilleri, denied both requests.
