Jazz harmonica player Toots Thielemans has died in Belgium at the age of 94.

Belgian media reported that Thielemans died in his sleep early this morning.

Broadcaster RTL reported that his manager, Veerle Van de Poel, said: "There were no complications. He died of old age, his body was simply worn out."

Jean-Baptiste Frederic Isidore Thielemans was a star in his own right but also played with jazz greats like Charlie Parker and Miles Davis as well as mainstream stars such as Frank Sinatra and Billy Joel.

Thielemans' performance at the Malta Jazz Festival in the early 1990s was renowned as one of the finest at the popular festival.
