In line with their CSR programmes to promote healthy living habits, for the second year running, MSV Life and Mapfre Middlesea are supporting the Youth Beachvolley Academy, set up by Swieqi Phoenix Volleyball. The academy provides the skills necessary for young athletes to play this Olympic sport.

Commenting on the academy’s work, Phoenix Sports Club president Orlando Bonnici said this complemented the successful work by the club in indoor volleyball. Swieqi Phoenix Volleyball dominated the youth and junior categories this past season, being crowned national volleyball champions in the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 categories.

“The philosophy of the club places a strong emphasis on the development of young athletes in all sports disciplines we take part in. In this case we recognised that a growing number of our young indoor volleyball players were developing an interest in beach volleyball, which is a growing sport all over the world. Our professional volleyball coaching staff has developed a programme aimed at developing skills needed for this sport. And thanks to the support of Mapfre Middlesea and MSV Life, we are now in a position to cater for this activity,” Mr Bonnici said.

MSV Life CEO David Curmi said: “Beach Volley has developed into a high-profile, glamorous sport and enjoys great visibility on beaches around the world, including Malta. MSV Life is proud of its role in helping encourage youths to undertake physical activity and to practise this sport.”
