Malta residents now today
Need to be watchful and look both ways.
Tons of development trucks daily on the prey
Noisily and dustily on their way
To create a Babel of Tower sway.
If this offends your lungs and nose,
Don’t worry dears, just, keep your windows always closed.
We care nothing for your life and health,
We just need a little more wealth.
Health is wealth, wise Greeks have said,
But now civilisation and democracy could be dead.
A supposed democracy, or an allowed autocracy?
A quality lifestyle where all were once more free,
Soon much less sun, clean air or sea...
Who will tell our children… when...?
“We once swam in open sea, then.”
Flow of drainage, stagnated traffic,
Most inhabitants on our island up in umbrage,
No more money magic...
May reason, rather than lassitude, prevail.
