I made two calls to the police on Monday, the feast of Santa Marija, a public holiday.

I live on one of the most polluted streets in Sliema as far as noise from construction goes.

The police never sent anyone but they told me the government agency in charge of illegal construction would show up on a holiday. That was a few hours before writing this letter.

The workers refused to stop and continued drilling and hammering on the walls that buttress my flat on Sir Arturo Mercieca Street. This anti-social behaviour is unacceptable.

Heavy fines should be levied on the disrespectful owners of the building who are quite aware of the work going on.
