Floriana struck twice in the opening half to see off nine-man Pembroke 2-1 at the Hibs Stadium.

The Greens took just 11 minutes to forge ahead when Amadou Samb burst into the area and sent a low cross towards Mario Fontanella who stabbed the ball home.

However, their joy was shortlived as Pembroke equalised seven minutes later.

Paltemio Barbetti’s through ball put Luke Montebello clear and the towering striker chipped the ball over the onrushing Haber before bundling the ball home.

Pembroke threatened again on 28 minutes when Montebello was blocked by the onrushing Haber with the ball falling to Siraj Arab who fired over with the goal at his mercy.

Instead it was Floriana who struck a minute later when Brandon Muscat inadvertently deviated the ball past Pembroke goalkeeper Mario Muscat following an Antonio Monticelli cross.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Mario Muscat had to be alert to tip over Maurizio Vella’s swerving free-kick.

Pembroke were reduced to ten men on 68 minutes when Siraj Arab was shown a straight red card after hitting Enrico Pepe.

Four minutes from time Monticelli found himself face to face with Mario Muscat but the Italian midfielder was denied by the Pembroke goalkeeper.

Pembroke ended the match in nine men when Montebello was shown a straight red card for a crude challenge on Andre Scicluna.

Flroiana’s Amadou Samb was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
