Shakespeare: Leicester City coach Craig Shakespeare has been appointed to work with England manager Sam Allardyce on a parttime basis, the FA announced yesterday. He will remain with Premier League champions Leicester, where he works under Claudio Ranieri. The FA has already appointed former Liverpool midfielder Sammy Lee as assistant manager. The new coaching team’s first match is a World Cup qualifying game away to Slovakia on September 4.

Lescott: Joleon Lescott has decided against a move to Rangers following talks with the club. Lescott visited Glasgow but it is understood he has told manager Mark Warburton that he does not want to move to Scotland for family reasons. The 34-year-old, who has a young family, was available on a free transfer with Aston Villa prepared to pay a portion of his final year’s salary.

Drinkwater: Danny Drinkwater is close to agreeing a new contract with Leicester as the club continue to tie down their star players. The England international is in talks with the Foxes to extend his deal and follow a host of key names in pledging their future to the Premier League champions. “I think Drinky is very, very close,” he said. “I am very happy with him, he had a fantastic season and I am sure he can extend his career here.”

Morrison: James Morrison is fully fit for West Brom’s clash with Everton after making his return from injury in the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace last week. The midfielder suffered a hamstring problem in January but was a late substitute at Selhurst Park and is available again for today’s encounter.

Pienaar: Former Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has joined Sunderland on a one-year deal, the Black Cats have confirmed. The 34-year-old South African, who played under manager David Moyes at Goodison Park, has signed after a successful trial on Wearside. He is likely to go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League derby clash with Middlesbrough. However, Lee Cattermole will not be involved after undergoing surgery to repair a double hernia.
