As part of the celebrations commemorating the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the parish of St Julian, the Spinola Band is holding a concert of sacred music today at 8pm at the old parish church of St Julian’s (known as Lapsi church).

This special event will include the premiere of the Hymn to St Julian the Hospitaller, a composition commissioned by the band from Mro Andrew Coleiro, with lyrics by Anselm Sciberras.

The concert will feature one hour of sacred music dedicated to the patron saint of the parish, including two new compositions by Mro Ray Sciberras, one of which is a hymn to St Julian.

The band, under the direction of Mro Aldo Minuti, will be accompanied by soprano Rosabelle Bianchi, tenors Brian Cefai and Charles Vella Zarb, bass Anthony Montebello and the St Julian’s Choral Group under the direction of Pio Dalli.

The concert is being held with the collaboration of the 125th Anniversary Commission and the Lapsi Church Foundation.

Anniversary celebrations continue on the following day with various activities planned, including a procession at 7.30pm which sees the return of the statue of St Julian from Lapsi church to the parish church where the arrival will be greeted with the antiphon Beate Juliane, composed by Mro Paolo Nani.
