One million passengers caught a bus last week, making the week ending on Sunday 14 August Malta Public Transport's busiest week of the year so far.

Malta Public Transport said it has increased its fleet from 260 to 400 buses in just over a year, with the number of drivers on its books doubling to more than 1,000.

"We are experiencing a steady growth in the number of passengers travelling on our buses," said Malta Public Transport general manager Konrad Pule. "Our investment in new buses, digital technology and smart ticketing is paying off and we are seeing confidence in the bus service growing consistently."

Last month, the bus company increased bus frequencies on six routes servicing the Cirkewwa, Buġibba and Sliema areas and started six new Tallinja Direct special services, providing 160 additional trips a day.
