The Malta Tourism Authority has expressed satisfaction at the results registered by the Gozo tourism sector during the Santa Marija long weekend.

In a statement, it said preliminary figures indicated a record number of passengers had crossed the channel, amounting to around nine per cent more than the same weekend last year, with most accommodation providers reporting being fully-booked well in advance.

Gozo Channel chairman Joe Cordina told the Times of Malta yesterday that the week leading up to Santa Marija saw an increase in passengers of nine per cent over previous years, as well as an 11 per cent increase in vehicle traffic.
