The decision on the proposed gas tank at the Victoria citadel will be made today.

Reading the case officer’s report recommending approval, one notes that the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, which claimed pride of place for the accolades on the rehabilitation of the citadel, has suddenly gone silent and did not find it expedient to give its views on this matter, thus adding its consent by default.

This when the proposed tank will be built within the fortifications, right next to a 600-year-old, recently restored ravelin, which would now be adorned with the relevant ‘Danger’ and ‘Keep Your Distance’ signage.

Alas, those of us living in the neighbourhood, have no option but to remain within the area of potential danger all our lives.

Is the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage an empty coat only interested in photo shoots?
