An earthquake was felt in parts of Malta this afternoon.

The 3.7 magnitude quake in the Sicily Malta channel, was registered by the university’s seismic monitoring group at 12.52pm.

A reader from Floriana said “I’m on the fourth floor and believe me the building shook for up to 10 seconds.”

The tremor was also felt in Valletta including by Times of Malta staff in St Paul Street.

The seismic monitoring group recorded another 10 tremors this month - the strongest being the impact of a 5.3 magnitude earthquake in Morocco on August 13.

The most recent tremors felt in Malta included one near Ragusa on February 8 and another measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale on January 13.
